Heritage Paint Colours

Weatherboard houses are great to add a splash of colour to. What if you’re in a heritage overlay area? Well you should just check out the heritage colours, it’s not just Brunswick Green, Indian Red and Classic Cream!! Infact the ranges can be a little eye opening. Please refer to your local council, they will have a list and, they even have colour specialist to help and sign off your colour scheme.

Even though you can’t see it, this house has a bright ‘Red’ front door. So if you’re not feeling brave enough, only paint the door! You can always paint it another colour next season.

We, as painters, enjoy working with colour, and trust us we aren’t going to leave your house looking like it’s in a maelstrom.

“Nostalgia, remembering better times, when I was young, things were better then.” – We as Exterior House Painters Kensington, know better.

When you have little to no choice with the painting, you have to work with what you’ve got. And that’s what happened here. Rather than paint over and try to hide the ‘SEVENTIES’, and some people try to, this customer embraced it and worked with it.

Painted so it now looks like a sharp, hip trendsetting seventies, Lou Reed if you will, rather than the faded old embarrassment, Brotherhood of Man. Ask your parents.

Painting Techniques:

On a serious note, this one posed a couple of painting problems.

The first, access. Access is always an issue with painting. Simply put, how do we get to the surface we need to paint. This one had small walls in the areas we needed to put to ladders to reach the top of the building.

The second, render. Render can be very hard to paint. Sometimes it’s so dry that even a brush stroke is impossible. This also means much more paint is needed. Render also shows brush and lap marks, so cold, damp days can be best!

Painting In The Winter – Newport
The Rain Didn’t Stop Play. Newport

“Plagued by bad weather, we still delivered on time. Okay. Whilst time restraints weren’t on me, I did promise the customer ‘by the weekend’, so we worked the weekend. Painting in the winter rain.” Sterling Exterior House Painters always go the extra mile.

The Colour Consultant did a fantastic job, the house looks great, in keeping with the neighbourhood, reflects the customers’ taste and best of all? It won’t look dated any time soon. I can pass on her details.

Painting in the Winter Rain

We used Norglass Marine Clear Varnish on the woodwork, as recommended by Footscray Paintspot. Difficult to use, but I’m told, the best product for the job. Always worth asking advise. We’re the painters, the experts on product application. The experts on product knowledge are the guys at the paint shop.

We also used semi gloss on everything else, this provides a slippy surface that dust and moisture find hard to stay on. Gloss is even better, but maybe a little too refective for some people’s taste!

- Ceilings: Weathershield semi gloss – Hogs Bristle half
- Gate/Render/Fence: Weathershield semi gloss – Caveman

How did we get to the top of this house?

This very unique house had unique access problems too.

On the side of a hill, the area infront was muddy grass, and in some places only 2 metres of space. It would be foolish to consider ladders.
Cherry picker/Knuckle boom? Electricity wires in the way.
Scaffold, whilst expensive, was the only option in this case. Your House Painters Ascot Vale.

As Victorian Weatherboard House Painters, I’ll tell you the secret on how to make a victorian weatherboard house look good. It’s simple, really simple. It’s Preparation. The unfortunate thing about preparation is time, because it takes time. A lot of time!

The front of this weatherboard house took 16 hours of preparation. Yes, just the front of the house. As a result in your weekend would be lost. Without even picking up a paint brush!
- Weatherboards: Tranquil Retreat low sheen.
- Trim: Lexicon half semi gloss
- Trim: Ironstone semi gloss.
